First released in 1999, the Spirit MP3 Player was Spirit's entry in to personal
MP3 player market. It is very small, and its solid-state design means there are
no moving parts so there is none of the skipping and jitters experienced with
portable CD players. You can jog, run even jump, the Spirit MP3 Player will not
miss a beat; in addition it has no mechanism to wear out.
You simply plug the Spirit MP3 Player into your computer's printer port and transfer whatever MP3 music you want to listen to into the Spirit MP3 Player. You could use music from a number of sources, such as your own CDs, the Internet or audio that you have recorded yourself.
In operation, this unit is very similar to a conventional CD player. It has buttons like Play, Pause, Stop, Track back/forward, Skip back/forward, etc. There is a digital volume control and a two-stage "loudness" bass-boost function.
So what is an MP3? MP3 stands for MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) 1 layer 3 and is a music file format. It is an efficient way to store high-quality music or other audio content on your computer as MP3 files are far smaller than a commercial CD audio file — yet they retain high sound quality. MP3 files usually have the extension .mp3, and can be obtained from the Internet, or can be made for personal use from your favourite CDs.
With the 32Mb of memory supplied as standard, you can store approximately 30 minutes of high fidelity sound. In situations where sound quality can be slightly compromised, you could increase this time significantly by using a lower resolution of MP3 file. Furthermore, you can easily install an additional 32Mb of memory into the player and double the overall storage capacity.
